Psalm 95:1“O come, let us sing unto the LORD”
For more than three decades, our congregation has opened its doors for a week each summer to nurture voices, young and old, in the joyful art of a cappella praise. The purpose of the school is to teach both children and adults how to read and sing shaped musical notes out of a hymn book and how to sing the various parts (soprano, alto, bass & tenor). Our ultimate goal is to grow in our ability to teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in our hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16).
Parents are often surprised by how much their children learn in just a few days and are deeply moved by the beauty of the music. Children tend to learn quickly and joyfully, especially when surrounded by peers in a setting rich with Scripture and praise. Singing is not just a tradition; it is a vital part of our worship (Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16), and we aim to do it “with grace in our hearts to the Lord.”
The singing school offers three age‑specific tracks that gather for morning and afternoon sessions, with a unified evening assembly in the sanctuary.
Preschool Class (ages 3–5) – Little ones memorize Scripture songs, hear Bible stories, and enjoy hands‑on, edifying activities that hide God’s Word in their hearts (Psalm 119:11).
Middle Class (readers through ≈ age 9) – Students explore music basics, rhythm, and simple two‑part harmony, learning to “make a joyful noise” together (Psalm 100:1–2).
Upper Class (junior high through adult) – Under experienced and beloved instructors, singers build a solid foundation in music theory, solfège, and sight‑reading. By week’s end, they confidently blend into four‑part harmony, fulfilling Paul’s exhortation to teach and admonish “in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16; cf. Ephesians 5:19).
Each evening, the sanctuary echoes with combined voices from every class (plus family and friends who couldn’t attend during the day) lifting heartfelt praise and previewing what the students have learned. Whether you are taking your first musical steps or refining skills for congregational worship, this four‑day school provides a Christ‑centered, fellowship‑rich environment to grow “with one mind and one mouth glorifying God” (Romans 15:6). Join us next session and add your voice to a 35‑year legacy of harmony and praise!
