We are thankful for your interest in Grace Primitive Baptist Church and pray you will see fit to visit us or visit us again. Our aim is to keep “the old paths” (Jer 6:16) by letting the Bible alone be “the sole rule of faith and practice” (2 Tim 3:16–17). Because the Scriptures are perfect and sufficient, we seek worship that is Christ‑centered and Spirit‑led.
How We Worship
Our gatherings are simple, reverent, and family‑integrated. We sing a cappella hymns (Eph 5:19) because New Testament worship was purely vocal, and we believe the biblical pattern remains the safest and sweetest way to praise God. We observe believers’ baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper with unleavened bread and wine, following the examples given by Christ and His Apostles (Matt 28:19; 1 Cor 11:23‑26). Our preaching declares the doctrines of sovereign grace (Eph 2:8‑9), so that all glory redounds to the Lamb who “loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (Rev 1:5).
Why It Matters
Doctrine is more than detail; it guards our joy and magnifies our Savior. Jesus warned that man‑made tradition can eclipse God’s commands (Mark 7:6‑13), and Scripture calls us to “stand fast” in the apostolic pattern given to us in scripture (2 Thess 2:15). By keeping worship and teaching close to the Bible, we believe believers are best equipped for holy living and lasting comfort.
An Open Invitation
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Ps 133:1). Whether you are new to Primitive Baptists or simply hungry for Christ‑exalting, Scripture‑saturated fellowship, we invite you to visit. Expect congregational singing, expositional preaching, and the occasional shared meal. Come see what it means to “worship the Father in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23).
Articles of Faith
We believe in one God and the trinity of persons in the Godhead; the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
We believe the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the revealed word of God and the only rule of faith and practice.
We believe in the fall of Adam and that all men by nature are in a state of wrath and utterly unable to recover themselves by their own freewill and ability into the favor of God.
We believe that God, before the foundation of the world, chose a definite number of the human race in Christ Jesus to salvation and they in particular are saved.
We believe that sinners are justified only through the merits and efficiency of the obedience, death, and resurrection of Christ imputed to them.
We believe all those who are called, quickened, regenerated, and justified are preserved in Christ and kept by the power of God unto salvation and can never fall away and finally be lost.
We believe Jesus Christ, who is the head and lawgiver, has instituted the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's supper which are to be perpetually observed by the church to the end of the world.
We believe that baptism, and the Lord's supper, and feet washing are ordinances of Jesus Christ and that true believers are the only proper subjects for baptism and that the mode of baptism is immersion in water.
We believe in the resurrection both of the just and the unjust and that the happiness of the righteous and the punishment of the wicked will be eternal.
For as much as Almighty God, by His grace, has been pleased to call us, whose names are subscribed, out of darkness into His marvelous light and all of us have been regularly baptized upon a profession of our faith in Christ Jesus and have given of ourselves to the Lord and to one another in a gospel church way to be governed and guided by the proper discipline agreeable to the word of God, we do therefore in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by his assistance covenant and agree upon the discipline of the church we are members of in the most brotherly affection toward each other while we endeavor to observe the following rules:
In brotherly love to pray for each other, to watch over each other and if need be in the most tender and affectionate manner to discover anything amiss in a brother we go and tell him his fault according to the direction given by our Lord in the 18th Chapter of Matthew, and not be whispering and back-biting one another.
We also agree to observe the Lord's day and attend our church meeting from time to time and not absent ourselves from the communion of the Lord's supper without a lawful excuse, to be ready to contribute to the defraying of the church expenses and to a scriptural support of the ministry, not irregularly depart from the fellowship of the church nor to remove to distant churches without a regular dismission.
We further agree that we will not hold in our fellowship any member who is guilty of fornication or drunkenness or any other unscriptural conduct, or any member having membership in any secret or oath-binding organization of a religious nature, and societies or heretical doctrines and practices, such as, no-hellism, two-ism or absolute predestination, of all things good, bad or indifferent.
These things do we covenant and agree to observe and keep sacred in the name of and by the assistance of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Adopted by mutual consent of those whose names are inscribed in the church book of Jackson Primitive Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi.
This done while in conference Sunday, July 7, 1946.
Pastor
Elder David Pyles, born in Memphis in 1958 and reared in Texas by devoted Primitive‑Baptist parents, grew up steeped in the doctrines of sovereign grace. While earning degrees in economics, culminating in a Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University, he regularly filled pulpits across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas. Recognizing God’s call, he was ordained to the gospel ministry in September 1984 at Medlan Chapel in Graham, TX.
In 1990, Elder Pyles moved to Mississippi to serve as pastor of Jackson Primitive Baptist Church (later renamed Grace Primitive Baptist Church), a post he continues to hold with gratitude. His preaching emphasizes God’s sovereign grace, practical discipleship, and the supremacy of Jesus our Lord. He and his wife, Karen (Rushing) Pyles of Statesboro, Georgia, are blessed with two children, John and Allison. They count it a privilege to labor alongside a loving and energetic church family for the glory of Christ.
